Michael Oberling – Arrival (Oh So Coy Records)

OSC regular Michael Oberling signals in our first release of the year with the aptly titled single “Arrival” written after the birth of his daughter.
Crisp beats with nagging chords and building tension make this an excellent floor filler or transition tool.
Remixes from Jozi duo Deep Souls take us down a stark, darker alley for those deep-tech floors. Great to have these lads onboard as they continue to make moves amid the underground elite in SA. Also debuting is Roy Mclaren from Scotland who has been in the game for over 20 years and worked with artists like K-Klass & Todd Terry. Here he adds his own signature flair to move this into peak time territory.

Tim Taylor (UK) – Blast Off (Daylight Robbery Records)

Tim Taylor (UK) makes his Daylight Robbery debut with a powerful single entitled ‘Blast Off’. Raw underground vibes backed up with remixes from Marco Strous making his label debut as well and Sanchez & Narvaez who make their return to the imprint.

Marcus Raute – Kind Of Game EP (Colour In Music Records)

Marcus Raute is back with a juicy release on Colour In Music.
The ‘Kind Of Game’ EP packs three original tracks by Raute plus two remixes by Jay Milton Low and Jakobin & Domino.
The title track is a deep & chord driven house tune, with just the right amount of vocal chops and rhythmic stabs.
The Jay Milton Low (aka JML) remix reimagines ‘Kind Of Game’ completely, opting for a break-infused house beat, a rolling synth bassline and delicately filtered pads, creating an eerie yet powerful dance track.
‘Within You’ is a full on homage to 80’s funk-pop, power-house and acid, mixing slap-bass, prince-esque piano and reverb heavy E-prom drums to a wonderful effect.
The Austrian duo Jakobin & Domino take ‘Within You’ to a much darker realm, with a simplistic shuffling house beat, a whole array of ghostly synths and a stronger focus on the vocal samples of the original.
Lastly Marcus Raute gives us his ‘Bad Touch’, a wonky, Syclops-esque house track that brims with broken drums, colourful stabs and slabs of acid.

Dolph – Duesterfoerde EP (Acker Records)

Dolph takes us on a joyride under the wide musical horizon that is so typical for him, using an ambling groove and the power of musical warmth as a means of propulsion. In his track Into he sends a colorful carpet of harmonic fragments drifting on the subtle flow of the rhythm, arranging and rearranging on the soft undulations of the bass like a kaleidoscopic narrative. It comes with two remixes, each picking up one of the two prevailing moods of this title: Lukas Endhardt puts a focus on the dreamy aspects, creating an idyllic Downbeat version. Toni Haupt on the other hand aims at the dancefloor and accordingly provides a solid dose of boost and pressure. Then there’s the programmatic title Constant Change that keeps morphing into ever new shapes and atmospheres, making it a very stimulating affair on all different levels of the production.
