ZaVen – Passive Activity (Sound Vessel Records)

ZaVen is back with SVR, it’s pretty much his second home Sound Vessel Records.

After some time off from music, he is back in action with this lovely Release, ‘Passive Activity’. This one is more on the Deep Downtempo style with smooth touches of synths and a lovely guitar riff that gives a true summer vibe.

Keeping that Downtempo style, Evren Furtuna comes in with his remix but giving it a more Organic House drift. Evren Furtuna is a producer that tells a story, his style is unique and addicting.

The vibe gets more uplifting with Processing Vessel and Col Lawton. Both give it the Deep touch with more uplifting beats, especially the bassline from Processing Vessel takes the track to a groovy state of mind, while Col Lawton’s Remix takes you to a set of Ibiza.

The ending comes with Deephope, his remix is more on the afterhours concept. Very driven beats and melody but yet has a very calm state of mind, which makes it a perfect tune to end this Release.

Kanas – Al Aire EP (Univack Records)

Release dates:
Beatport & Spotify: 01-july-2022
Others: 15-july-2022

Univack presents ‘Al Aire EP’ by the Italian producer (based in Seville) Kanas. This special EP is made around an original Organic House track, with flamenco influences, mainly characterized by a Spanish guitar recording, as well as percussive elements such as genuine flamenco claps and vocal phrases.

This first track is followed by two more club-oriented versions. A first version by the same Kanas with a more progressive flavor, but still respecting the main elements that characterize the original version. And a second version, this time darker and more hypnotic, by the also italian producer Frankie Vertigo.

The EP is completed with ‘Corona Borealis’, another original mix, halfway between Progressive House and Melodic Techno, in which Kanas makes use of the Spanish guitar again, this time with less presence, among other more electronic and less organic elements.

Cantos – Underground People EP (Uniting Souls Music)

Seattle’s house music institution Uniting Souls continues pushing the strong vibes in 2022, marking the collective’s impressive 25th year. The top-notch releases see no sign of stopping as Cantos’ Underground People EP is the latest from the seasoned crew to drop on global dancefloors. Cantos is known for his memorable HMNI warehouse parties and the community that it created, as well as bumpin’ releases for Selekta, LTHM, CPR Digital, and his own HMNI imprint. The Underground People EP features four new cuts primed and ready for funked-up nightclub action.

The EP opens with the crisp percussion and vibrant chords of “I-5 South.” The rhythm is steady and pulsing, feeling like a night drive down a secluded highway. The evocative mid-section breakdown adds an air of mystery to the affair. “My Dog Barks” starts with a flurry of electronic hand percussion, giving this one a pronounced tribal flair. Strange sounds and effect-laden swishes provide an almost ominous flavor over the house beats. A treat for the after-hours, “Love Like Mine” is dark and deep, complete with growling bass hits, persistent tom-drums, and echoed vocal phrases. “Underground People” closes the EP with a potent four-on-the-floor builder as spoken vocal samples, synth hits, and blasts of high-frequency melody combine to give the floor its peak-time moment.

ORIGINS047

VA – This is Origins Vol.3 (Origins Records)

Release Date: 27th May 2022

Josh Butler and Origins Rcrds drop the third instalment of their highly successful ‘This Is Origins’ series where the focus is on bringing the best talent and tracks that define the Origins sound.

The first two editions of the series have been released to great success, featuring artists such as RUZE, Demuir, Michel De Hey, Flashmob, and Chinonegro. The series is a carefully selected blend of house with touches of deep, minimal and tech sounds. For this edition, Butler has chosen 6 incredibly talented artists who have each delivered a choice cut of refined and delectable house music in the Origins sound.

The first track on the EP is ‘Another Way’ by Camiel Daamen & Arie, who are no strangers to the label, having released their Do What You Like EP on the imprint at the end of 2020. Their track is an energy fuelled ride into the deep with Arie’s vocals giving this track presence and identity. This is a stand out track to start off the EP.

Next up is Brooklyn based artist, Ky William and his track ‘Vinyl Speed Adjust’. He drops a powerful deep, low slung minimal tech house track with an acid touch, delivered in the original style of tech house that would fit perfectly in the sets of artists like Terry Francis, Mr C and Nathan Coles. This is a sublime late night excursion.

Then we reach McHenry’s track ‘Get It Together’ which is simple yet super effective, using an incessant hypnotic groove between the bass line which intertwine with the beats, getting you hooked right in, before adding a cheeky vocal sample that stands out above the others. This is a slick track that will become cult hit.

Nautica (UK) follow with their track ‘Hear That Sound’. The UK duo have featured on prominent labels like PIV, Deeperfect and Glasgow Underground, with this being their first track on Origins. ‘Hear That Sound’ is a light and fresh grooving minimal deep, deep house track with delicately played lead hooks and organ chord stabs delivering an upbeat and happy track for the floor.

Neviks is a relative newcomer on the scene, yet with production skills of someone who’s been producing for many years. Having already featured on Toolrooms Leader of the New School 2022 compilation at the start of the year, Neviks continues to build his name and reputation with ‘One More’ now featured on the this release. ‘One More’ is a rolling groover with intricately arranged rhythms worked in track creating a lively yet hypnotic groove which is topped off with some softly word vocal samples.

Last but not least is Toni Varga, an artist who has had releases on profile labels like Desert Hearts, VIVa, Circus, Cr2 and Avotre. For his first release on Origins he drops ‘Ikon’ A rolling bass lined track with well worked synth leads giving the track its identity and will sound amazing in dark big rooms or festivals alike, a proper Ikon-ic track to finish off this exquisitely chosen VA indeed.
