Madou Kouyate – Nindjougou EP (Wind Horse Records)

Wind Horse Records presents a stunning EP with an international touch – an ode to the influence of ethnic global music on the Indian electronic music scene. Madou Kouyate, an extremely talented singer and songwriter from Mali, delivers a 6-tracker that also features Indian producers Hamza Rahimtula and Unnayanna on remix duties.
‘Nindjougou’ kicks things off, a beautiful song that sparks warmth and speaks to the soul. The tune features Madou’s incredible vocals, delightfully layered with ethnic strings and percussion. ‘Nindjougou’ has an almost folk music feel with an addictive melody filled with uplifting emotion and supported by ethereal stabs.
On the remixes, Hamza keeps things clean and groovy, using elements of the title track judiciously to craft a beachside dance-floor burner. This remix springs to life with a piano stab, giving it a Chicago-house-meets-Africa vibe that retains the flavor of the original while standing out on its own. Unnanyanna’s remix is also special as the afro-house exponent gives ‘Nindjougou’ the acid treatment. The rework also features samples from a xylophone that adds an Asian vibe while a deep, bouncy bass line brings the funk.
Madou Kouyate’s next original track – ‘Souleymane Sangare’ – is more upbeat with a simple yet effective drum pattern coupled with raspy percussions. The song builds with effortless ease, accompanied by buoyant pads that offer the required aural ambiance. Once again it’s Madou’s vocals that stand-out and really take this tune to the next level.
The second of the remixes from the effervescent Hamza is positively breath-taking. The veteran DJ’s incredible ear leads him to produce a track that screams ‘Detroit’ and ‘Disco’ at the same time. It’s a reflection of the influences that have helped shape his music. Cosmic pads accompany a bass guitar riff that will get feet moving, making for a mix to throw down at peak-time or to warm up floor. Rounding out the release is an extended version of ‘Souleymane Sangare’ that can be defined as ‘made for the club’.

HOKI- Almost Home (The Young Proprietor Records)

01. Almost Home
02. Almost Home (Clarian Remix)

The Young Proprietor is a new label that focuses on ambient moods and melodic grooves, showcasing a style that blurs the lines between indie electronica and soothing house music.
Presented on the first release is Montreal’s HOKI whose solo original is complimented by a remix from Clarian, who has been a feature of labels such as Kompakt, Turbo Recordings, Anjunadeep, Bedrock and Culprit.
HOKI is a collaborative project that fuses the diverse experiences of producer Varti Deuchoghlian with Australian vocalist Brent McCormick’s powerful song writing. Together they have over two decades of combined experience working in a variety of different genres.
“Almost Home” is the original track on this release and it’s the first single taken from their forthcoming debut album ‘The Strangest Of Us All’, which will be released at the end of 2019 also on The Young Proprietor. A soothing intro leads into a steady, deep beat, slowly rising and falling with gorgeous guitar tones. The tough nuances of love are the focus of McCormick’s endearing vocals, which melt with the melody to create a beautiful, emotional ballad.
As somebody always at the forefront of fresh emotive productions, Clarian was a natural fit to remix HOKI’s Almost Home. Never one to conform to the industries desires, Clarian has been introducing fresh influences to the scene, and along with many solo tracks, has also done many high profile collaborations with the likes of Tiga and Felix Da Housecat.
Injecting energy into the groove from the get-go, Clarian adds a layer of rhythmic percussion to supply a consistent drive from start to finish. He harnesses the sultry vocals by cutting and stretching the melody, keeping intact the original lyrical message. By kicking up the tempo, Clarian invites Almost Home into the club scene. Primed for sunset serenades and dance floors brimming with emotion, this rework is the perfect representation of HOKI’s promise and Clarian’s storied ability to create magic moments.

B.A.X. – Pilgrimage EP (San Pedro Music)

B.A.X. hails from Saigon, Vietnam and having his music on San Pedro Music for this release is a treat. A composer at heart, his main instrument is the piano and with it he has been exploring many roads to which he finally landed on film-scoring since 2010. 2012 sees the beginning of his DJ career as well as getting acquainted with the electronic music world and by 2018 his cultivated sound and productions are released on various prestigious labels.
He’s already shared with us a beautiful track ‘Monsoon River’ on the Multi Kulti Electronics a while back and now we have a three-tracks EP entitled ‘Pilgrimage’. Emotions, depth, groove and plenty of heart can be pin-pointed on every track. Yet, all are readily available for different kinds of moods/sets bringing in that eastern-landscape vibe to the active listener. As a superb bonus, we welcome Doan (a very fresh face in the local Saigon scene) with his interpretation of ‘Pilgrimage’ delving into the more ‘aggressive’ dance floor orientated groove and 4/4 character.

His brand new ‘Operating Systems’ combines elements of the classiest deep house, electro, house, and techno tracks as he executes a leftfield two tracker that is set to raise some eyebrows this summer on July 11th.
