Bobby Breezy & Matt Mason – Spare Change EP (Viva Recordings)

Spare Change
Spare Change (Deez Triple D Mix)
Spare Change (Deez Triple D ALT Mix)

Native Soul’s Bobby Breezy joins multi-instrumentalist Matt Mason for “Spare Change,” a new single on Viva Recordings that prescribes a dose of feel-good energy. These two have been catching attention with their uplifting deep house vibes, with a track set to appear on a forthcoming King Street compilation. But first, “Spare Change” excites the dance floor with tough, swinging beats, an old school bass bounce, and cool riff exchanges courtesy of trumpet, jazzy guitar, and keys. The live playing is masterful and catchy throughout. Things get funkier as the legendary Demarkus Lewis comes on board with a pair of top notch remixes. Lewis’s Deez Triple D mixes layer extra keys, pads, and melodies over his trademark house rhythms, leading to a peak moment in a deep house DJ’s set. These are necessary grooves, giving the floor some positive late night action.

Rob Strobe – Low Flow EP (Lucidflow Records)

Rob Strobe is back on Lucidflow after appearing alongside LFO’s G-Man earlier in the year on the solid-as-you-like ‘Quantec’ release. ‘Low Flow’ is a four tracker that goes to town on house chords hewn from Chicago and works them to the bone.
‘LowUnder’ leads off with wriggling rubbery bass before staccato chords perforate the low end, filtering up and down as the analogue beats that thread everything together shift from pattern to pattern. ‘Tubular’ rumbles the bass frequencies in a similar fashion, if subtly more jazz flecked that the squirming mass of ‘LowUnder’, its keys are more muted with every element in this track focused on syncopation, existing in the spaces between the kicks.
‘Goosebumps’ is straight laced and driving, laser focused on pushing towards an unspecified goal – never hurried but relentless. ‘Heritage’ finishes off in disorientating fashion, the chords lost in reverb and the bass line cascading towards a near 6/8 lurch.

Ethan Poe – Atlantic EP Colour In Music Records)

The Atlantic EP by Ethan Poe marks the second release for Colour in Music in this strange year of 2020.
The title track ‘Atlantic’ is a slowly bouncing house groover with a reverb drenched synth melody, a super low dub-bass and heavily warped vocal chops.

Italian producer Ercos Blanka gives ‘Atlantic’ the remix treatment, adding ethereal pads and a chirping arp-line, stretched out to an epic 9 minutes of dub house.

The Chris Wayfarer remix opts for a subtly broken beat, adding dub stabs, gentle rhode melodies and a deep bassline, while maintaining the original chords and vocals.

‘Excessive curiosity’, the second original by Ethan Poe, is a slow house cut with shuffling hihats, big dreamy pads and a prominent synth bassline that ties the track together.

Release date: March 2nd, 2020

However, during lockdown in Los Angeles, I was able focus and make some of my best productions to date. I had the ‘Renewal’ title in my mind since late 2019; maybe with some sense of irony and divine inspiration the title is now so fitting. House music has been a big part of my life for a long time and ‘Renewal’ represents my desire to share a life mission of spreading love and hope through the passionate medium of this subculture.” – AJ Mora

His success began in 1992 with a #1 on Billboard’s 100 Hot Dance Music chart with Techno trio, The Movement, on their club smash ‘Jump!’. Ivan Dbri – The Love I Own LP (Harmonious Discord Music)

When the Music Feels Like Crying
Knowledge Base
Sodoma and Gomorra
The Love I Own
Love Letters For You
Danke

Ivan Dbri, Mexico’s maestro of deep, drops his third full length album on Harmonious Discord with The Love I Own, a collection of love songs drawing inspiration from deep house, lo-fi house, and techno. Ivan Dbri has been contributing to the HD imprint for over 10 years, a remarkable and fruitful relationships that’s led to this special release. Reminiscent of early works by Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Jr., Ivan blends staccato percussion with ultra-lush soundscapes, creating dynamic and musical compositions to touch the soul.

A musically complex intro, “Prelude to Sex” features organic percussion that lifts effortlessly into dance territory. Deep and romantic house music compositions like “When the Music Feels Like Crying” and “Endless” help listeners dive deep into their heads and propagate beauty in their surroundings. “Knowledge Base” enters lush dance territory with colliding house chords and synthetic accents floating lightly over rich pads. “Sodoma and Gomorra” brings similar depth but with the pads in the back seat. It features musical trills and uplifting accents amid a tense bass construction. “What True Love Is All About” and “The Love I Own” return to deep house territory with heavy lo-fi and breakbeat elements showing Ivan’s ability to construct timeless music with range and depth. The breakdown in the “The Love I Own” creates a weightless atmosphere and floats listeners into uncharted depths. “Love Letters For You” is an HD favorite; the perfect blend of music and technology. Tense chord lifts and light techno drum constructions make it a perfect tool for any set. “Danke” closes out the album with a tribute to vocal house. Swung percussion, fat square bass lines, and cut-up vocals provide a proper send off to this delicious album.

Tracklist
1. Fireflies
2. Isil
3. Horizons

Influenced from various styles of electronic music ranging from Drum & Bass, Techno through to Ambient, Manser favours mature, elegant and leftfield sounding productions, and that is clear to see on his Cold Notions EP on Seamless.

You could be forgiven for thinking the first track on the release Fireflies was produced by someone like George Fitzgerald or Bonobo. On this track Manser combines emotive ambient pads. electronica breakbeats with a softly sung vocal hook of “My Love For You” swirling around creating an emotionally charged track that will stick in your head long after you finished listening.

Track two on the EP is Isil, where Manser gives light to his love of more deep percussive house. With tastefully works Arabian sounds interwoven with the electronic and percussive sounds this just shows the producers versatility.

Track 3 is Horizons, goes into a more ambient deep techno territory, with an evolving arpeggiator led arrangement this is one is more for late night listening excursions.

The final track on the EP is Ukiyo, which is a classy end of night affair. Ambient pads interlaced with reverb washed vocal cuts and a 4/4 beat until have way through the track where the time structure changes and drops into a breakbeat track this is an incredibly well put together track and an outstanding piece of leftfield electronica.

Sugarman – Dancing Your Soul (Seamless Recordings)

24th July 2020 (Streaming)
31st July 2020 (Digital Download)

Tracklist
1: Dancing Your Soul (Original Mix)
2: Dancing Your Soul (Kintar 5AM Remix)
3: Dancing Your Soul (Kintar Deep Remix)

Sugarman returns to Seamless with a seriously heavy weight track with a remix package from Kintar.
Dancing Your Soul crosses that boundary between melodic, deep, and progressive house to create a hypnotic dance floor friendly track but also one of those perfect for your Spotify playlist. With a percussive start, hi-hats and kickdrum, the melody infuses with guitar like chords, drum roll building to the drop where the baseline drives you along. The haunting vocal adds yet more dimension to this track as it builds and builds to a progressive house style breakdown, with huge deep pad sounds and melodic chords, and then overlaid with beautiful high pitched keys….this really is an ethereal track that will have you closing your eyes with your hands to the stars…beautiful

With this genre defying track Sugarman reached out to progressive house master, Kintar to take this track to another level. Picking up on the deep and progressiveness of the track, Kintar turns in two mixes. Kintars’ 5am mix takes no prisoners and does – exactly – what it says on the tin and turns this track in to a dancefloor monster. From the start a huge kick and base leaves you in no doubt… get ready to Scream if you want to go faster! Driving, melodic, progressive, deep, techy mix, rinsing out the vocal loop to the max. The breakdown is spine-tinglingly brilliant and drops back into more 5am mayhem. If you’re lucky enough to be on a dancefloor this summer with this bad boy dropping be afraid, be very afraid!

Kintar’s Deep mix makes great use out of the pads from the original creating a wall of sound underpinned by the driving baseline. This mix compliments the 5am mix perfectly, being its deeper brother, more about the harmony and melody taking front and centre and again making full use of the vocal loops, another fantastic breakdown dominated by the pads.

This is house music at its finest with something for everyone and anytime. A Sugarman hit for sure.
