Omotani – With The Jazz (Viva Recordings)

Long-time member of the Viva Recordings fam Todd Omotani reaches out with a top notch single for the esteemed imprint. A veteran Pacific Northwest DJ, Omotani has held residencies in Seattle, Chicago, Vancouver, and Tokyo (at his renowned monthly SOLID party). Omotani’s discography contains releases on Amenti, Mark Farina’s Great Lakes Audio, and Viva — including a recent remix of Jay Tripwire’s “Filament Burst.” Also, Omotani is a talented artist and graphic designer, responsible for iconic images and cover art for numerous Viva releases.

“With The Jazz” is a smooth deep house cut that will please the old school heads to no end. Warm Rhodes-style keys, vibe riffs, a bouncing bass line, and cool vocal drops move this to the front of the DJ’s crate. Chicago’s legendary Diz, operating under the nom de plume of Bertha, tackles the first remix. It’s a swirly, hypnotic take, featuring intricate chord interplay, a sweet trumpet, and a feet-pleasing chunky groove. San Francisco’s Tim K, who supplied keys on the original version, rejoins the release for the second remix. A disco-style bass line leads this one on to the floor, while spacier, echoed elements appear in the midsection. Other melodic solos come on board, making this a definite late night treat.

Omotani’s “With That Jazz” will be released on vinyl with full color artwork by N8W. This is Viva Recordings’ first vinyl release in over ten years, limited to 300 copies.

LWPTCH – Honey Money EP (Promo)

Release Date: Nov 2019

Lwptch presents his Honey Money EP. A 5 tracker that walks the line between vibey House rhythms and 80’s overtones.

Opening the EP “My Fictional Girlfriend” is a slab of emotional tones and carefully sculpted synthwork. One By One takes things in a slightly different direction with a more 80s aesthetic and a chord progression to die for, this is music to get lost in.

X-Pression really brings that 80’s vibe to the forefront, carefully curated to sit nicely on the reserved side of things, but with an undeniable energy as the track works thru.

East Side Girl, takes the EP in a legitimately smokey deep direction, cut vocals and a groovy bassline push this one thru as a neat progression to the Acid House finale that is A.C.D Duty. Like a night out laid bare in 5 tracks this EP from Lwptch puts a lot of emotion across in a way rarely found.

d niel – Tiny Changes EP (Cabana Music)

Cabana Music present “Tiny Changes EP” by “d_niel”. Tiny Changes is the cutting-edge of recent years of research and study by the dj and producer Bahian in the form of a 3-track EP copyright where he wisely explores and combines the atmospheric sounds and groovy drums of his favorite segment: the minimal house.
In this EP that marks the producer’s debut on the “Cabana Music” label, in addition to the strong presence of abstract beeps and hypnotic basslines, d_niel uses melodic lines whether they are guided by synthesizers talking to each other as in Articulate or by a digital piano in “Sandpit Of Remembrances”.
You can also see his recent flirt with Techno in “Tiny Changes” where a 60 Hz-marked dry bass drum and deep ambiences support an old recording of Terence McKenna’s talk about psychoactive drugs.

Wolf Story – Heart Love EP (Get Physical Music)

Miami based duo Steve Sanx and Rico from Paris are Wolf Story, the next act up on Get Physical Music.

Between them this pair has a rich heritage that dates back to the nineties and takes in running labels like Goldentears and Bimini Records and DJing with Popof. Together they have shaken the walls of clubs all over Europe as well as festivals like Movement. They starred on the Defected Ibiza 2018 Compilation and have had props from Kevin Saunderson, so are a well-established duo always making moves.

The gorgeous ‘Heart Love’ is suitably emotive, with dancing drums and glowing keys, soaring synths and expressive, dreamy vocals all uplifting your soul. The pianos are played with real feeling, and the string stabs only enrich things further to make this the sort of lush, open air house track to get hands in the air and the love flowing.

The second superb offering is ‘Between The World And Me’, which is just as impressively musical but on a more downbeat and introspective tip. Again fleshed out with beautiful chords and keys, bird calls and deeper drums play off while you wallow in the midst of this most heart-warming track.

Wolf Story really conjure up some magic here, on this latest gem from Get Physical Music.
