Josh Butler – Illusions Of House EP (Origins Records)

Josh Butler drops a heavyweight 3 track EP titled ‘Illusions of House’ on his own imprint, Origins RCRDS, with a focus on classy house music infused with vocals and a touch of depth.

Josh Butler is well known in the scene for his powerful and classy house productions which has surpassed 90 million streams across all platforms. With official remixes for the likes of Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Joris Voorn, Butlers exquisite production have seen his release on power house labels Defected, Crosstown Rebels, Solid Grooves, and Snatch! and his last outing on Origins last year became a firm favourite with many in the scene from the likes of Ben Rau, De La Swing, Hannah Wants, Groove Armada and many more.

His newest release is the incredibly fresh sounding ‘Illusions of House EP’ where once again Butler delivers the goods in impeccable fashion. First out of the bag is ‘Illusion’ which is a trademark Josh Butler track, elegant, smooth with fluid and crisp production making this is a joy to listen to for those with a discerning ear.

Next up is ‘Hideout’ where he ups the ante and notches up the energy with punchy beats and a weighty bassline groove, combining with ever evolving melodies drifting through the track, that give you a warm feeling and a sense of happiness. There’s no hiding from this one as its top draw!

Last but certainly not least is ‘Sax Tool’ which features Tom Da Lips. Here Butler finishes the EP with pure sophistication, a live sax layered over the top of a rolling sub, and chords that give the track so much depth; this is a deep house journey where you can truly lose yourself in a dream.

VieL returns to Ready Mix Records for release number 260, a haunting track entitled ‘Anabiosis’, presented with remixes by N’Pot and Khaaron.

Greek producer VieL, aka Vasilis Lampaounas, is a veteran club and radio DJ, with releases on The Soundgarden, Tale + Tone, Hoomidaas, The Purr, Magician On Duty, as well as Ready Mix. ‘Anabiosis’, which refers to ‘a temporary state of suspended animation or greatly reduced metabolism’, layers sensitive synth melodies and whispered voices over languid yet driving drums, combining to form a compact and unassuming electronic masterpiece.

Talented music-maker N’Pot returns to Ready Mix with a warm and subtle reworking of ‘Anabiosis’, stretching the vision over a more expansive vista, as if switching to the movie to widescreen. Hypnotic drones are the order of the day here, alongside rolling, desert sky grooves.

Previously known as Robert R. Hardy and D.M.P., and swiftly becoming a fixture on Ready Mix, Khaaron completes the package with a more dramatic, potent rendition of ‘Anabiosis’, raising the track’s metabolism and supplying the perfect energy to begin any warm-up session.
