German Brigante & Yamil – Basari EP (Sol Selectas)
Release Date: Friday 27 May 2022
Format: Digital
Sabo’s record label Sol Selectas presents a collaborative release by Spanish artists German Brigante and Yamil. Along with the three originals, the EP also features remixes by Amine K, and Mr. ID.
German Brigante is an eclectic producer whose music has has featured on labels such as Get Physical and Bar 25. He has previously contributed to one of Sol Selectas’ Summer Sol compilations and this is his first full EP on the imprint.
Yamil is already a member of the Sol Selectas family who has appeared on a number of the label’s releases as both a remixer and original artist. He has also worked with labels ranging from Super Flu’s Monaberry to Pipe & Pochet.
The original tracks are organic house with vibrant percussion and traditional Moroccan instruments layered with sequenced beats. Spain and Morocco are neighbours so share similar cultures, and German Brigante plus Yamil are both influenced by the traditional Gnawa music of Morocco.
Amine K and Mr. ID are two of Morocco’s best known electronic music artists, so who better to rework tracks inspired by the traditional music of their homeland.
Amine K has previously featured on Sol Selectas when collaborating on music with Sabo, but he has also provided solo tracks, and worked with other labels including Tiefschwarz’s Souvenir Music and Dave Seaman’s Selador.
Mr. ID drops his debut on Sol Selectas after previously working with the likes of Kerri Chandler’s Kaoz Theory, and he brings his skilled musicianship and afro rhythms to this EP.
“Kibo” features the incredible vocals and guembri playing of Mehdi Nassouli, and it has a unique organic sound fuelled by the tones of a lush bassline. Its sun-drenched melody synth and dramatic percussion fills give it a great upbeat groove. The remix by Mr. ID, takes the song even deeper into soulful, deep house territory, a style Mr. ID is well-known for.
“Basari” is the EP’s title track, and its funky bassline and spine-tingling melodies are intertwined with tribal percussion fills, plus mythical vocal chants. Amine K adds his peak time twist to the tune by lifting the tempo and thickening the groove with some additional drums that are perfect for the dance floor.
The final tune “Gnawa” reinterprets a classic Berber tune with a solid low-slung groove, deep bass, ceremonial chants, and flutters of guitar that build captivating suspense.
The cover art by Helia Jamali is a Saharan dreamscape with “Lucy” wandering through dimensions.

Record Sounds Like: moody, exploratory trip through divergent shades of experimental deep house, techno and minimal.
Washington D.C.-based house and techno duo “Shades of Play”
release Microdose EP on Witty Tunes
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Microdose, the latest release from Washington DC-based producers “Shades Of Play”— aka Derek Tucker & Felipe Rivera— is a moody, exploratory trip through divergent shades of experimental house and techno.
The 5-track EP flexes Tucker and Rivera’s taste for introspective, minimalist, and emotive modes of dance music. In Microdose, the duo delivers a thoughtful range of tracks that prioritize experimentalism and emotion without sacrificing dance floor power.
In opening track Gazuza, a haunting, hypnotic melody is cut against a tough bassline and echoing vocal elements. What follows is pure, unadulterated, deep house music magic.
It goes without saying that house and techno heads love a slow burn. NYC Lovin is just that: an ode to the minimalist, edgy house music stylings found in Brooklyn warehouses and Manhattan clubs.
In Microdose, Tucker and Rivera explore a distinctly raw, primal, and psychedelic side of techno. Marked by complex rhythms and eerie vocals, the track is designed to bring dance floors to a frenzy.
Things lighten up a bit in No Promises, a sparkling, uplifting house track that pairs sophisticated percussion with dreamy soundscapes. Its tribal-inspired sound is ripe for steamy summer dance floors and sunny afternoon sessions alike.
Inspired by the likes of Floating Points, closing track Mirrors and Masks is an intricate, commanding piece of progressive techno; a cinematic secret weapon for building dance floor euphoria.

Flo Mrzdk & Monotunes remix brings the original to an upbeat beat piece of music with a pumping deep kick and driving HH’s. A groovy bassline and synth groove arps get your body moving, keeping throughout the track the atmospheric vibe. A wonderful opening track for your deep house or organic set.

Cristina Lazic – 21 Past 20 EP (Bondage Music)
Born in Milan and raised in London, Cristina Lazic is a DJ and producer, with a radio show on Ibiza Global, and has released music on Rebellion and her on Bondage Music. Her deep and stripped back vibes with a groove are her musical signature, and we are delighted to have her back on the label.
21 Past 20 is a deep and hypnotic workout, with a sprightly and upbeat vibe, while keeping things deep and locked in to the vibe with its solid bass adding a real depth.
The dub mix takes us on a sophisticated groove based journey, keeping things sparse, and allowing the elements to shine through. Adding gritty edges and hints of melodies, this is a hot alternate twist on the original.
Label staples Pornbugs are on remix duties too, and take things a little tougher, with dubby tones and plenty of energy, sprinkling the good stuff and delivering plenty of punch.
