Sabo, Namito & Shamoun – Spicy Sumac (Sol Selectas)
Release Date: Friday 30 August 2024
Format: Digital
Sabo’s record label Sol Selectas presents a three-way collaboration between Sabo, Namito and Shamoun who deliver a middle-eastern organic house single. The release also includes an upbeat Afro house rework by Silvano Del Gado.
An American artist living in Los Angeles, Sabo is a visionary and organic house pioneer who has travelled the world as a DJ, and played headline sets at festivals such as Burning Man and Coachella. He and Sol Selectas have helped define what is today known as organic house, and his contribution to this track showcases his skills as a music producer.
Namito needs little introduction to fans of Sol Selectas after the success of his tracks such as “Stone Flower” and “Legend.” He is an Iranian artist living in Germany, and he is a dynamic melodic house producer whose style merges music from his heritage with modern electronic sounds. Alongside his numerous tracks on Sol Selectas, he has also worked with other respected outlets such as Embassy One, Bar 25, Do Not Sit and Selador.
Shamoun is a Middle Eastern musician who adds live instrumentation to this release that incorporates rhythms and melodies from his spice-infused culture.
On remix duty, Silvano Del Gado is an Italian artist from Florence who is a drummer and percussionist turned electronic music producer. Specialising in Afro Cuban drums, his remix adds tribal rhythms to the original in the style he has featured on other labels such as his own DEL GADO REC.
The original mix of “Spicy Sumac” is a moody track that has a throbbing bassline and stripped back percussion forming the foundation of its groove. Trippy atmospherics shroud the Middle Eastern keys and darbuka drum fills played by Shamoun.
Silvano Del Gado’s remix of “Spicy Sumac” works in a new rolling bass and vibrant percussion that lifts the energy of this Afro house version.
Helia Jamali’s cover is a desert dreamscape inviting listeners into a realm of Persian spice and spiritual flavour.
Alexandre Billard & Benjamin Franklin – Mona Ki Ngi Xica (UML Records)
“Mona Ki Ngi Xica” is a track that fuses elements of traditional music with modern influences, creating an upbeat and festive atmosphere.
The remix featuring Benjamin Franklin and Alexandre Billard adds a contemporary touch, incorporating punchy beats and innovative arrangements that elevate the track’s energy.
This remix highlights catchy melodies while preserving the cultural essence of the original, making it a captivating musical experience.
The vocals are often brought to the forefront, adding emotional depth and a connection with the listener. In summary, this remix is a celebration of musical diversity and an invitation to dance.

Jimmy Right Now – Summer Rain EP (Personal Belongings)
Jimmy Right Now is back showcasing his Deep House approach, with dreamy vintage synths and real bass guitar.
‘Summer Rain’ is his latest track, built over a mellow pad harmony that evolves on an nostalgic but euphoric 7-minute journey of electronic music.
Closing out the EP rediscover two tracks from his PB Debut EP in case you missed them years ago.
Bralan Arias – Kick The Bass EP (Fluid Funk)
Debuting on Fluid Funk with his maiden five-tracker, “Kick The Bass EP”, here comes Colombian up-and-coming house producer, Bralan Arias. All in classic, Chicago-style finesse, the record oozes a bespoke mix of laid-back hedonism, playfully suave boogie and coastal-minded escapology, built to take on the summer crowds with total devotion to duty.
Lead single “Kick The Bass” gets the ball rolling on a straight out jacking note, combining a subs-heavy chassis with a finely engineered blend of uplifting flute flights, catchy piano stabs and Spanish guitar riffs gone wild to hypnotic effect. The result’s a tune that seamlessly moves the cursor from filtered house to sample-heavy jazz n’ hip-hop, beautifully bridging the gap between those pumping dynamics and a sense of pristine soulfulness. Handed over to label affiliate Danou P, who you should hear more of on Fluid Funk later this year, the track morphs into a further ghetto house’y chugger, ramping up that bass to full incendiary potential and stressing on the muscular side of things with its fully revamped drums and pumped-up piano stabs leading the charge. Pure oomph.
Back to a more velvety headspace, “She Went Abroad” treats us to a languidly sensual arrangement of jazz trumpets, roughly patched-up vox samples and knee-buckling percussive work, neatly underlined by some damn lush flute lines. “Pensamientos Profundos” peeps towards further wonky and funky territories, putting on a fine show of marshmallow-like synth wadding, woozy melodies and heavily delayed machine talk. Rounding it off proper, “Acid is What They Say” has us vibing to a mischievous hodgepodge of squelchy, 303-emulated psychedelia, frenzied drum onslaughts and chopped-up vocals out some steamed-out backroom. Perfect closing cut to an EP highlighting the many facets of Arias’ talent when it comes to crafting lastingly addictive, magnetic club narratives.
