Blanka Mazimela feat. Korus & Sobantwana – Gcwanini (Get Physical Music)

Eclectic house duo andhim step up to Get Physical to remix Blanka Mazimela feat. Korus & Sobantwana’s ‘Gcwanini’ which originally came on this label in 2020 on Africa Gets Physical Volume 3.

South Africa’s Blanka Mazimela is a label mainstay and one of Afro house’s finest artists. This tune is one of many that have proven that point and is the perfect source material for acclaimed German pair andhim. They have long been a core part of the underground and mix up their creative output as filmmakers, music producers and record label owners. They have dropped more than 60 major releases, play 100s of international shows a year and head up Superfriend Records.

The superb ‘Gcwanini’ (andhim Remix) is a spine-tingling sound that lifts the spirits and enriches the soul. It has stirring vocals and authentic Afro-house flavours in the percussion and chord work. The grooves are as organic as house music gets with expressive leads and tribal chanting all working their magic throughout the track.

This is a masterful remix from andhim that brings an all-new dimension to the original, which is also included in the package.

Ultrasour – Do I Have Your Attention (Crossland Music)

Ultrasour is back again at Cross Land Music with another track which transports you with its special atmosphere and enveloping rhythm. This time he is accompanied by Kanedo, who with his impressive remix completes this single, worthy of the best beach deep house.

Mathias Schaffhäuser 6 Uhr Morgens (Suleiman Music)

Mathias Schaffhäuser returns to Suleiman with an indie dance release that has a deep tech groove, and alongside the original music, there is also an electro-tinged remix by Pawas.

A veteran of the German scene who has been releasing music since the ’90s, Mathias Schaffhäuser is a Cologne-based DJ and producer. He boasts an impressive back catalogue of releases including music on record labels such as Kompakt, Souvenir Music and Third Ear Recordings. This is Mathias Schaffhäuser’s second release on Canadian record label Suleiman, and along with his original track, he has also produced two alternative versions.

‘6 Uhr Morgens (Vocal Version)’ is a new arrangement of a classic song by Mathias Schaffhäuser, which was featured as an instrumental on his classic album from 1999 called Lido Hotel. The vocals are newly added to the updated version, and give it a revitalised sound with added psychedelia.

On remix duty, Pawas is an Indian artist living in Germany who is highly respected for his atmospheric style of deep house which incorporates elements of disco. He has released on labels such as Spectral Sound, Get Physical, Seven Villas and Compost.

“6 Uhr Morgens (Vocal Club Version)” opens the release, and its a moody cut with pulsating sub-bass and trippy synths that are overlayered with shuffling high-end percussion. It’s got a psychedelic atmosphere that is characterised by a hazy vocal and hallucinogenic tempo switch in the midsection. The ‘Vocal Version’ is considered the original mix of the 2023 version, and it drops the tempo while also making more prominent use of the vocal. The ‘Instrumental Version’ removes the vocals to focus on the leftfield elements of the groove.

Pawas’ remix of 6 Uhr Morgens adds a new chugging bassline and melody that compliments the original’s vocals. It’s a mesmerising version that lifts the energy without losing the original’s vibe.

Ransel – Love Is In The Air (Beatservice Records)

Ransel is back on Beatservice Records with his latest studio offering, aiming directly for the floor via the off-kilter dynamism of “Love Is In The Air.”

Øivind A Sjøvoll has been on a non-stop roll since launching the Ransel project — an outlet for the music occupying the more dance-oriented corners of his wildly diverse repertoire. The Norwegian artist’s production range is nothing short of staggering, and, while his previous Ransel releases have certainly lived up to the kinetically-charged manifesto, his latest piece is among the most club-focused to date.

Driven by a sturdy four-on-the-floor rhythm, “Love Is In The Air” bursts out of the blocks with undulating synth chords cascading over bumping bass as alien textures add to the late-night mood. Stripped, hypnotic, and deviant in tone, the immaculately formed groove is designed with dancers firmly in mind.

Yet more stunning material here from Ransel, further enhancing the already glowing reputation of this ultra-talented production don.
