MoBlack & Nana Atta – Kuwe (Insomniac Records)
Afro house luminary MoBlack teams up with South African artist Nana Atta on their captivating new release. “Kuwe” is a seamless blend of MoBlack’s masterful craft and Nana Atta’s soul-stirring vocals, creating an evocative journey through lyrical poetry and sound.
Propulsive house rhythms and poignant melodies interweave with tender riffs and lush percussive layers, each element soothingly uplifting.
As electronic pulses replicate in harmonious progressions, “Kuwe” exudes a warmth that touches the spirit. It’s a song made to connect, to resonate, and to liberate the body in movement.
Close Counters feat Lyric Jones – Feeling Takes Over Me (Holly Sound Music)
Naarm’s own Close Counters continue the heat, today dropping their latest album-taster ‘Feeling Takes Over Me’ with LA-based Lyric Jones.
Recorded on a recent writing trip to the USA, ‘Feeling Takes Over Me’ is a sleek, jazz-infused and soulful CC’s production, paired perfectly with Lyric’s vocals making for a delightful slice of house.
The band recently finished a slew of dates across the UK & EU summer ticking off Lost Village Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Defected Malta and Cabaret Sauvage. Julian Moreno & Nico Cerban – Castle Beach EP (Otherwise Records)
The beach is where movement meets calm. The wind converses with the waves, while the light of the evening transforms the horizon into nuances and contrasts. It is on this threshold, between the introspective and the pulsating, that Argentine DJs and producers Julian Moreno and Nico Cerban debut their new release for Otherwise Records, Castle Beach. Featuring two original tracks, ‘Castle Beach’ and ‘Collins’, and a remix by the label’s managers, Kolombo and Fran Bortolossi, the compositions flow through 80s synthesizer textures, sophisticated percussion, and vocals that emerge like a sunset by the sea, combined with the intensity and rhythm that demand the dynamism of the dance floor.
The title track, ‘Castle Beach’, is defined by subtle melodic layers and a dense bass line, creating an immersive and engaging atmosphere. In this composition, Julian and Nico craft a sound that reflects the contained calm of a beach at dusk, yet carries a latent energy, ready to emerge. ‘Collins’, in turn, expands this narrative with a more percussive and rhythmic approach, driven by the main arpeggio and elements that evoke the movements and agitation of the waves on a beach at night.
Completing the release, Kolombo and Fran Bortolossi provide the remix of ‘Collins’, reinterpreting the original with new nuances and pushing it even further towards the dancefloor, now with more weight and movement. Castle Beach presents itself as a meeting point between the melodic essence and the energy of contemporary Deep House, maintaining the balance between the sound elements and the atmosphere that inspires its title, reflecting the vision and studio expertise of Julian Moreno and Nico Cerban.
Julian Marazuela – Lights (Be Adult Music)
It brings great excitement to both Julian and the entire Be Adult Music team to present the return of the unmistakable sound of the great Vincenzo. His remix of the track “Lights” is truly memorable. Additionally, Julian treats us to two previously unreleased versions that are finally being unveiled.
Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy high-quality deep house once more from the BAM imprint.
Reto Erni – You Know EP (Bondage Music)
Swiss DJ/producer Reto Erni joins the family with the You Know EP.
Reto broke onto the global scene in 2019 with a series of releases on Framed Realities, a label he started with friends, Squep and Christian Schiemann. A regular on the local circuit, he’s well loved by the Zurich clubbing community for his intricate, well designed sets. Now signed to some strong international imprints including Acker Dub, Reto is just beginning the next phase of his inevitable world domination.
Opening with ‘Floats’, snappy percussion and a low-slung bass set the scene perfectly. Deep stabs and spoken vocals complete the vibe which grooves with consummate ease. Warm and creative with a hint of nostalgia.
Next up, ‘Fly’ takes things a little deeper. Bouncy sonics and a rubbery bassline make the perfect backdrop for male spoken vocals and a chunky, deep 1am crossover groove.
Finally, title track, ‘You Know’ rounds out a deeply satisfying debut with class. Building slowly, sparse percussions and earworm arps grow into an hypnotic vibe that floats around you, broken only by cut up male vocal shots. A masterpiece of less is more and a mesmeric way to introduce an astounding new voice in dance music.
Chemical Surf feat Starving Yet Full – Winner (Get Physical Music)
Lucas and Hugo Sanches have been frequent guests on this label this year, firstly with their ‘Mercy’ single in May and then a wonderful cover of Laurie Anderson’s cult hit ‘O Superman’. Both show why they are so beloved back home but also on the international circuit, where they have headlined everywhere from Tomorrowland to Creamfields and collaborated with fellow titans like Tiesto and Vintage Culture. They are known for always evolving their sound and disregarding traditional genes.
‘Winner’ is a warm, tender house sound but with dynamic drums. The piano chords draped over the beats are organic and introspective, while the synths are sleek and bring future soul. The icing on the cake is the Starving Yet Full vocal that lends the whole track a sense of intimacy and empowerment and is sure to make this another huge hit for Chemical Surf.
