Laroz – Miombo EP (Sol Selectas)
Release Date: Friday 15 March 2021
Sabo welcomes Israeli artist Laroz to Sol Selectas for a magical release that’s deep and intimate with emotive melodies.
Laroz also known as Laroz Camel Rider has been a regular feature on the label’s Summer Sol compilations, but this time is back with his own EP that features two original tracks alongside remixes by Rodrigo Gallardo and Sam Shure.
In addition to Sol Selectas, Laroz’s music can also be found on other imprints including Diynamic and Souq Records. This release takes inspiration from his love of African music, and fuses traditional ethnic rhythms with organic house beats.
Rodrigo Gallardo, formerly of the band Matanza, is a talented artist from Chile who brings the heat from his home country with the enchanting style that has previously featured on Sol Selectas alongside the likes of Underyourskin Records and Nazca.
Sam Shure is a name that many will recognise from labels such as Stil Vor Talent and Katermukke. Based in Berlin, he has an epic style of melodic house that is both innovative and eccentric.
The opening cut “Miombo” refers to the woodlands covering several portions of the South-Central African Plateau. Enchanting vocals are also presented and as breathtakingly beautiful as those forests.
Sam Shure makes his Sol Selectas debut with this remix of “Miombo” that switches focus from the melodies and instead focuses on the percussive elements. Blissed out and full of charisma, the rhythms intermingle accompanied with soaring, ethereal synths.
Track three “Massawa” is named after a port city along the shores of Eritrea and features the amazing vocals of Faytinga who is an artist from the region. The deep house chords marry perfectly with her emotional vocals, and the track transports you to a perfect sunset on the African coast.
Closing out the release is Rodrigo Gallardo’s remix of Massawa and he brings an exquisite finish to this enchanting release. Working in some acid jazz, he drops the tempo and adds in his own melody lines along with some free-flowing percussion that lifts the energy of the groove.
The artwork by Helia Jamali is a union of the lush African nature and the cultural creativity of its beautiful people.
Matt Prehn & Kennedy – Monogamy (Oh So Coy Recordings)
Fashionably late to the party (if you can call 2021 that) Oh So Coy return to the fore as label head Matt Prehn joins forces with Kennedy for a tongue in cheek house workout that bucks the trends.
On remix duties – Toni Young adds his mesmerising dub spells and Thai producer Q Narongwate joins the roaster with a stripped-back percussive cut.
Ultra Soul Project – Everything Sounds The Same Pt1 (Gruv Shack Records)
Everything Sounds The Same is the first out of three parts that will be released on Gruv Shack this year. The first EP features four tracks, and two of them takes you on a rhythmic voyage into the heart of Motherland. The tracks are inspired by the likes of Culoe De Song and One of the track has vocals of former South African president Jacob Zuma narrating the SOUTH AFRICAN HISTORY briefly. The other two tracks have a treasure trove of warm soulful keys, Rhodes licks, evolving pads and analog bass tones that Ultra Soul Project is well known for. This is Part One and there’s two more coming.
VM0048 Jorhav – Emilia EP (Vaunce Music)
Emilia is the New EP from Jorhav, a high quality release built by the Peruvian artist.
The EP brings us a very hot minimal house sound with lots of flavours and pleasant sounds for the soul.
