Tony H – Piano Ain’t Easy EP (Viva Recordings)

Viva welcomes the return of Tony H — the Panamanian sensation — with a club-primed new double A-side single. As the proprietor of his Late Night Munchies and Munchies After Dark imprints, as well as regular supporting slots with the biggest DJ names touching down in Panama, Tony H — AKA Anthony Henderson — has developing a growing global following. His popular mix series — The Drive-Thru — can be heard each month, inspiring an ‘every 4th Wednesday’ club event. Recognizing Tony H’s talent and this pair of killer tracks, Viva was eager to bring him back on board the label.
The single opens with the moody “Piano Ain’t Easy” and its steady, snapping rhythm and percussive effects. The proverbial piano enters with Detroit-inspired chord play, occasionally filtered and cut-up to match the beats. This one’s for peak time at the dance den. On the flip side, “Fool Me Once” takes a deeper path with swirling pads, a crisp drum track, and a beguiling vocal hook. The track is sublime, introducing arpeggiated melodies, dark background stabs, and spacious reverb hits as it progresses. The late night just got a whole lot later.

Tade – Celestial Album LP (Default Machine Records)

Get into deep and minimalistic trips with our new release on the machine. From Tbilisi, Georgia, TADE brings forward his unique, complex sound, an atmospheric feeling on the whole ride of his 16 tracks. We can’t do anything but love his musical style. Breaking away from any trends, these tracks are full of the fine details, a strong feeling of techno but presented in a very particular way.
In a world of electronic music where almost everything seems to be the same, Default Machine finds and creates interesting sounds and discovers artists that propose alternatives for the dancefloor and the most exquisite ears. TADE fits in perfectly, and we welcome him to the family.

Franksen & LDB – Parker’s Trip EP (Lucidflow Records)

The Frankfurt based pairing of Franksen and LDB are the next to grace the Lucidflow catalogue with a trio of early hours dub cuts. Soothing a revitalising tired muscles is the order of the day, rather than a severe savaging of your spinal chord. This is a set of tracks that are adept at soundtracking both a dancefloor where a crack of light is starting to signify the morning, or a headphone commute in a fine misty drizzle.
First up is ‘Parker Dub’, layering tumbling bass, percussion and dub stabs in a little chamber of echo. Overcast and low key, it is a groove through and through with little swells of intensity for those all important moments where you need a jolt.
Following this, ‘Golden Days’ lays out some classic mid-nineties progressive sounds in a modern template. Little details mean a lot here – hidden away behind the staccato melody is a little shard of snare drum that catches the ear, giving an element of funk to proceedings.
Finally, ‘Train’ rounds off the release in classic style. Taking cues from Detroit, MK sax and Saunderson strings sit against melodic dub chords and insistent bass, juxtaposing deepness and toughness.
‘Parker’ will be available on 17th June 2019 from all the usual digital stockists.

Djuma Soundsystem – Body Language Vol. 21 (Get Physical Music)

The much heralded and influential Body Language series returns with its highly anticipated twenty-first instalment featuring Djuma Soundsystem. The compilation is brimming with original productions by the extraordinary artist himself.
The experienced and acclaimed Norwegian artist is known for serving up magical tribal grooves imbued with deep feelings and melodious rhythms. He has graced small intimate clubs and bustling festival main stages alike with his warm vibes and has released on this label as well as the likes of Rebirth, Crosstown Rebels, Zehn and Sol Selectas. Djuma Soundsystem now returns to spoil his fans with a selection that features seventeen unreleased productions from start to finish!
The tracks are a medley of curated productions featuring his favourite producers offering re-rubs of his own older favourites, novel remixes by himself, and brand new productions to top it off. He maintains a sharp-eyed focus on the tribal elements, often inspired by African rhythms, that the Djuma name has become synonymous with over recent years. On Body Language 21 he takes the series to the next level by hand picking the true leaders of his genre to remix him, in a perfect blend with new and upcoming talents, mainly from Africa, that he predicts to be the superstars of the future.
Rey&Kjavik opens up the mix with a remix of Djuma Soundsystem’s modern classic ‘Koma Kobache’, setting the tone with sparse synths and hand drums. A Djuma Soundsystem edit then picks up the groove with some warm, rumbling drums as the mix stays deep and dubby early on. Enchanting lead synths are laid onto his Tribal Dub of Robosonic and Kostakis & Mr Luu’s ‘Beatboxer’ remix layers up the late night and spiritual feelings with more majestic deep house. The mid-section gets you on your toes with smooth transitions that introduces bigger chords and more upright drums from the likes of rising Team Distant and Karyendasoul. Then comes Mezomo, whose remix of Djuma’s ‘Parga’ is a bright and stirring centrepiece with its epic tribal vocals, closely followed up by Armonica’s dark contribution to the project. Djuma’s own edit of his track with Aki Bergen and Lazarusman builds the pressure with bouncing and propulsive drums and a moving vocal that builds to a real ‘hands in the air’ moment. Further tracks from the likes of Re.You, Los Cabra and a final collaboration with Demian Muller ride things out in a real epic deep tribal style.
This mix is a widescreen musical journey that takes you deep into Djuma Soundsystem’s sensitive and emotional percussion driven world.
