VA – Mental Picks Vol 41 (Expmental Records)

The new Mental picks is here!

This EP showcases a more downtempo and breaks sound, reflecting the love for all electronic music styles. Featuring four tracks, this new Mental Picks presents a diverse range of electronic music talents, each track showcasing a unique sound.

The EP begins with Schime’s breakbeat masterpiece, which has a mesmerizing atmosphere that will transport you to another world. The second track, by label boss Eddy Romero that releases for the first time as Saturnz Other Soul in the label, takes a more melodic approach with lower BPM and brilliant melodies mixed with the dark and saturated underground sound of his main alias. Soble’s track, the third on the EP, is a breathtaking trip that incorporates flamenco vocals, subtle synths, and bass, demonstrating the exceptional talent of this Spanish artist. Closing out the EP is Dad Of The Year’s “Turn Down The Lights”, a sweet parade to somewhere in another dimension that will leave you feeling uplifted and inspired.

As the label celebrates its 15th year in the industry, this Mental Picks release holds a special place in their hearts and marks the first of many more to come. The commitment to pushing the boundaries of electronic music and bringing new and innovative sounds to the listeners remains unwavering.

Apsara – The Light EP (Rhythm Cult)

The Cult welcomes Apsara to the fold.

From Tokyo to San Francisco and now to Jakarta, her multi-genre DJ sets have seen her develop a loyal following across the globe. Whether it is an underground rave in the San Francisco Bay Area, mega clubs like Stadium Jakarta, or the grand stage of Tomorrowland, her distinctive style seamlessly blends techno, tech house, progressive house, trance, disco and house music.

This artist with Japanese ancestry, a former California raver, effortlessly controls the dance floor from the booth, and her abilities have brought her to her present residency in Jakarta. Her ability to produce music has also led to releases on other labels, including Monaberry, Truesounds, Zerothree, and others.

Her non-conformist approach to genre is reflected in her first EP for Rhythm Cult which fuses house, techno and contemporary melodic influences. First out of the gate is the low subby groove of ‘Arcalod’, a powerful minimal excursion that pushes along on an ever-rising drone punctuated by deliriously glitchy vocals. Fierce and angular techno influences combine with organic elements showcasing Apsara’s unique cross-genre style. ‘Silent Parade’ is up next taking us to the dark depths of the club with its robust throbbing rhythms. A serious heads-down groove aimed at the dancefloor. Finally, ‘The Light’ wraps fidgety micro-percussion and innovative sound design around a hushed spoken word vocal. The track is a real sonic trip imprinted with three-dimensional foley atmospherics and completes a mind-altering package of hallucinatory futuristic house music.

Early support from Luke Slater, Jamies Zabiela, Mauro Picotto, Mark Cooper, Stelios Vassiloudis, Richie Hawtin, Marco Faraone, Andreas Henneberg, Funk D’Void, Joris Voorn, Tim Rush Hour, Paco Osuna, Sean Johnston, Angelo Ferreri, Paul Loraine, Don Diablo, Mason, Chris Fortier, Tomo Hirata, Ruben Mandolini, Blakkat, Robert Owens, Danny Tenaglia, Kenny Brian, and more.

Overall, Apsara’s debut is really impressive and will appeal to DJs seeking both dancefloor punch and auditory inventiveness.
