Birds of Mind – Journey LP (Kindisch Records)

Birds Of Mind end their year with ‘Journey’, a magically mellow new album on Kindisch.

Birds of Mind is made up of Paris-based duo Alex H. and Adrian C. Alex studied filmmaking in NYC and picked up a passion for electronic music while traveling the globe. He now spends half his year DJing on the island of Mykonos and is inspired by being close to nature. Adrian was born into a Venezuelan family of classical music artists, studied the violin and piano at the Conservatory of Paris then made his way into musique concrète. Together they compose music that is electronic but nourished by the exploration of organic sounds and ancient chants. Birds Of Mind will return to Get Physical in 2022 after debuting there in 2019, but before that comes this immersive new album. It is a spiritual, peaceful and loving record with a very natural presence.

‘Birth Of The Phoenix’ opens up with four minutes of ambient pads and swirling, wordless vocals that are immediately soothing. The deliciously deep and delicate ‘Mindgame’ sinks you into a heartfelt house groove, and dubby cut ‘The Tree of Knowledge’ is embellished with intoxicating vocals, found sounds and plenty of natural sonic details. ‘La Maison Bleue’ is clean and elegant, with celestial melodies lifting your spirits before cosmic ambient piece ‘It’s Me’ brings lush layers of synths to take you ever higher.
The second half of the album plays out with the floating grooves and expressive Spanish vocals of ‘Wing Flapping,’ romantic late-night house and deft instrumentation of ‘Dropping Seeds of Life’ and the melancholic lullaby that is ‘Inside Your Head.’ Deep bass and intoxicating jazzy sax define the supple ‘The Void Between Us’ and ‘Finale’ closes down with gorgeously optimistic chords, cosmic motifs and glassy melodies that beam down from the heavens.

‘Journey’ is a perfectly escapist listen from two talented artists.

Andy Caz – Fill The Gap EP (Colour In Music)

For the 44th release we feature a new name in Colour In Music.
New at the label but a well known artist at the underground portuguese scene.
Andy Caz comes from Oporto city with a bunch of what he does best, powerfull and dreamfull tracks. Dancefloor vibes with “Fill The Gap” EP.

“Fill the Gap”, the track that gives its name to the EP and fills the deserved place at this release. Lush pads and a minimal breakbeat intro make the presentation. When the energy starts to build, a strong kick and the bass seam to make you jump from earth to space. Motivational speech gives confidence to the dancer, and prooves that the right sound at the right place makes a hell of a track. A must have for those who love timeless music.

Luís Bravo and Amarno are on the remix dutty for “Fill the Gap.” Luís who is no strange to the label teams up this time with this new artist Amarno, who has an amazing catalog of alias releases. .Strong Dub Techno lines, minimal groove, and cinematic chords, with a touch of simplicity very characteristic to Bravo´s sound, combined with Amarno’s percussion strong game and experience.

“Beginning” is a bassy dancefloor inducer.
With a warm analog touch (which by the way is Andy´s studio trademark), warm chords playing along with the groove and a voice that tour guides you into the right mood.
Portuguese seasoned deep tech.
“Serum”,-“an amber-coloured, protein-rich liquid”.

This isn’t blood or human body, but you can feel the texture and the meaning of the title. Richness all over the groove, with warm sounds, pads, that come and go all the time, never go away for ever but never come to stay. The chopped voices sound like a higher conscious state, telling you to dance from night ‘till dawn.

Enough talking, you have to live your personal sound experience with this 4 storytellers and fill your gap.

VA – Khepri (Sounds Of Khemit)

Sounds Of Khemit builds on the success of their first release by quickly following up with a superb various artist collection. A broad mix of artists from around the world all contribute to what is a brilliantly diverse album.

The Sounds of Khemit label is focused on serving up music to transport the listener to higher states of consciousness, unlocking and strengthening our life mission on this planet. It aims to bring harmony and joy to people in their daily lives, and this new collection sure backs that up.

LA-based deep house dreamer Sarkis Mikael kicks it off with ‘Mountain Rising,’ a gently undulating groove laden with bittersweet chords and keys that rise through the mix. UK duo Death on the Balcony has a stylish house sound and has released on the likes of All Day I Dream. They offer ‘Lake Andromeda,’ a humid roller with wispy pads and the gentle patter of toms papering the groove. Label co-founder Nhii and Wild Dark return to Sounds Of Khemit after contributing ‘Hanga Roa’ to the first EP. ‘Dreamers’ is seven seductive minutes of cloudy synths and pillowy drums that sink you in deep.

Ykonosh is an up-and-coming Mexican duo composed of life-long friends. They have already turned heads with tunes on Underyourskin Records, and now ‘Heka’ takes you into a late night and exotic world of enchanting house music. Fabian Krooss is a Berlin-based talent who also appeared on this label’s first EP. His ‘Papilio’ is beautifully delicate and roomy, with fractured melodies darting about over soft drums. Turkey’s Serkan Eles has travelled between downtempo, ethnic and melodic house throughout his career. Here he does so to spine-tingling effect thanks to the heavenly vocal that hangs above his succulent house grooves.

The Seville outfit Holed Coin always tends to tell musical stories that fuse the organic with the electronic. With ‘Learning’, they go slow, leaving you plenty of space and time to get lost in the arcing pads and jumbled percussive sounds. B.o.T’s ‘Poor Stranger’ then gets more upright with a breezy house groove packed with melodic and percussive details. London based Kindisch artist Jim Rider brings the majestic ‘Hunter’s Harp,’ before Jordanian pair and alternative desert house duo Fairplay deliver ‘Things’ a slice of eerie and atmospheric house. The album closes with Vruno, a Chile-born but Berlin-based artist who again showcases his naturalistic sounds with the epic strings and melodies of ‘Pali Satty.’

Khepri is a fine statement of musical intent from this already vital label.

Dubtommy – Immersion EP (Limitation Music)

Coming from the Netherlands, Dubtommy delivers the next ep number 43 called Immersion. After the remix of Addex track Across The Endline, he is returning with his first official ep on the label with 3 original tracks. His recent work was released on labels like MixCult Records, Stately Records, Electrolux Real MusiQ and Waehlscheibe to name a few. In his past releases, his distinct sound was mainly a process of deep-dub techno but in his Immersion ep he takes the ambient, slow and breakbeat approach that we find in his first two tracks.

The EP starts with Immersion which delivers spoken hypnotic words along the track with a breakbeat sound and atmospheric dreamy pad. Sound of chimes and the shakes are filling the track with tranquil feel. The second track is perfect for an intro set. Silhouette (Movement) has a pure ambient and calm sound that blends well with a two note bassline and soundscapes atmosphere in the background. Extending Curve finishes the ep with a deep house sound. Melody is present in this track by a driving synth sound, with the spoken words and reverb chords that are present sometimes in the track progression and blends well with the entire track’s flavour.
