Zymo – Small Town Boys (Kindisch Music)

James Mac debuts on Insomniac Records with his new single, “Truth.”

“Truth” is a dark afro house number, sourcing its inspiration across a number of disparate genres. UK drill style vocal hook stands on business with its ice-cold, veracious refrains, as slinky basslines and foreboding pads move with deliberate purpose through a complex web of afro house drums.

Born in Australia but currently residing in France, James Mac is a house music producer who has been probing the globe to celebrate a multitude of cultures through his global-minded grooves, with a special knack for crafting afro and organic house tracks.

James has been jetsetting on international tour dates across Europe, Asia, Australia, as well as his own curated residency at Amnesia France. He has upcoming shows lined up at New City Gas (Montreal), Madarea (San Francisco).

Right on cue for the festival season ahead, Fluid Funk reignites the flame with the first iteration in a newly minted series of VAs called ‘Fluid Files’. Handing it to friends of the label old and new, ‘Fluid Files Volume 1’ presents Reggie Dokes, Orlando Voorn and Sykes on a set of eloquent booty-shakers.

Up with the laid-back number “A Minute of Time”, Reggie Dokes breaks the EP and propels us in a cottony sonic bubble headlong. Tape-delayed chords and intricate, Afro-funk-informed polyrhythms intertwine as a jazzy sax and opaque synth membranes fill the room with a sensuous, hedonistic vibe.
Label staple and Dutch techno and house legend Orlando Voorn provides the delicately vibrant “Running Slow” – a string-laden house chugger tailored to haunt the dance floor with its impeccable orchestration of cinematic violin flights, poignant piano melody and dynamic momentum sure to have dancers wading in a dreamlike interstate, halfway proper functional machine funk and elevating otherworldliness.

Last but not least, multi-faceted Rotterdam artist Sykes rounds off the package with the shuffling boogie number “Our Love”, an ode to the Chicagoan scene’s slo-burning grooves and soulful overload. We are so excited to present this follow up release by KatsUp, with another EP full of melodies and charming synths reminding us of that old-school inspired nu-disque sound of early 2010’s.
