VA – The 40th Anniversary Album (Trax Records)

TRAX RECORDS TURNS 40 — AND EARNS GRAMMY RECOGNITION.
A HOUSE MUSIC LEGACY HITS A NEW HIGH!

CHICAGO, IL — Born in Chicago and spread across the globe, Trax Records ignited a cultural revolution with the raw, unfiltered sound of house music. Now, as the iconic label celebrates its 40th anniversary, it marks not only four decades of sonic defiance — but also multiple Grammy nominations that affirm its lasting impact on music history.

The 40th Anniversary Collection has been officially submitted and is eligible in the following Grammy categories:
• Best Historical Album
• Best Recording Package (vinyl series, designed and pressed by Desslab)
• Best Dance/Electronic Recording — Stylophonic’s “Jack It Up”

Curated by artist and provocateur Jorge, the compilation is a time-bending journey through house music’s past, present, and future. The release features a dynamic cross-section of foundational legends and new-generation innovators, including Frankie Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, Phuture, Ron Hardy, Paul Johnson, Joey Beltram, Hiroko Yamamura, Stylophonic, Analog 87, and more. From anthems like “Move Your Body” and “Your Love” to modern reinterpretations and vinyl-only gems, the project is both a cultural document and a club-ready manifesto.

“What’s remarkable about Trax is that it has always been ahead of the curve — and often against the curve,” writes Billboard. “The 40th Anniversary Collection does more than just look back. It updates the ethos of Trax for a new generation… It’s gritty, soulful, queer, Black, physical — and still jacks.”

Each edition of the compilation is limited to just 150 copies per drop, featuring bespoke packaging and exclusive artwork that celebrates Trax’s visual and sonic identity.

“This is more than a compilation,” says Jorge. “This is a battle cry — a reminder that house music started here, and we’re still moving it forward.”

With Grammy nominations now in motion, Trax Records: The 40th Anniversary Collection is poised to cement its legacy not only on the dancefloor, but in the history books.

Trax Records still jacks.

Casomado & Luis Machuca feat Tim Fuller – Feels So Good (Friskybeat Records)

Casomado and Luis Machuca pay homage to funk royalty with “Feels So Good,” a sun-soaked house anthem that transforms vintage Rick James inspiration into poolside perfection. Released via Friskybeat Records, this digital single arrives as both a vocal celebration and a late-night deep house excursion.

The collaboration sparked when Machuca encountered vintage footage of Rick James in the studio, leading him to construct a vibrant drumbeat filled with percussive energy. Casomado responded with rich guitar work—crispy wah- wah effects and fiery licks that anchor the groove in classic funk tradition while pushing it into soulful house territory.

The “Feels So Good (Vocal Mix)” features singer-songwriter Tim Fuller delivering heartfelt vocals over chiming keys and emotive percussion. Fuller’s “music makes me feel good” refrain becomes an instant earworm, supported by Max Zipursky’s funky basslines and soulful chord progressions. Sangito Bigelow adds Latin conga rhythms while trumpeter Malcolm Aiken provides melodic call-and-response interplay that ties the arrangement together.

The “Feels So Good (Deep Mix)” strips away the daylight optimism for something more nocturnal. Heftier kick drums anchor squelchy synth pads while vocal snippets echo through the mix like distant memories. Cool saxophone riffs and crisp handclap snares create a dubbed-out atmosphere perfect for after-hours dancefloors.

TREE021

Last Gentleman On Playa – Juzu EP (It’s Good To Be A Tree)

Release Date: Thursday 31 July 2025
Format: Digital

Last Gentleman On Playa drops a mystical organic house release on his record label, It’s Good To Be A Tree, and it also includes remixes by Dr Parnassus, MiRET, and Kermesse.

Known for his trippy style, which combines immersive atmosphere with tribal drums, Last Gentleman On Playa is heavily inspired by his experiences at Burning Man. Most of Last Gentleman On Playa’s music has been released through his own record label, but he has also featured on other imprints including Cosmic Awakenings.

On remix duty, Kermesse and Dr Parnassus have both previously featured on It’s Good To Be A Tree, but MiRET is featuring on the imprint for the first time.

Kermesse in an Argentinian artist known for his mix of psychedelic vocals, quirky rhythms and majestic melodies. He has released music through record labels such as Kamai Music, The Magic Movement, and Lump Records.

Dr Parnassus is a shamanic producer from Bali, whose tracks are a concoction of shimmering synths and Middle-Eastern melodies sequenced into melodic grooves. He has featured on record labels ranging from Sol Selectas to Underyourskin Records.

Based in Spain, MiRET is making his first appearance on It’s Good To Be A Tree, following regular releases on his own imprint [MuMa]. He has also featured his chugging downtempo style on respected outlets such as Bar 25, 3000 Grad, and Sounds of Sirin.

“Khor Lo” is first of the original tracks, and it’s a tense instrumental track with swelling pads and intricate melodies, creating spine-tingling suspense.

“Upaya” is a downtempo track with a low-slung bassline, which underpins the call-and-response of muffled guitar chords and fluttering acid synths, while sparkling percussion adds to the enchanting vibe.

Dr Parnassus’ remix of “Upaya” removes the acid melody, drawing focus to deep pads that create a more melodic version, which is both majestic and uplifting.

“Juzu” is the third of the originals, and it layers live percussion with an array of trippy samples to create a compelling groove that unfolds with the help of plucked guitar chords.

Kermesse also remixes “Juzu,” and add one of their characteristic funky basslines, while warping the sound of the guitar to create a distinctly unique version.

MiRET’s remix of “Juzu” makes good use of the original’s guitar, but strips back the percussion to create an atmospheric groove with pulsating pads and plodding bass chords.
